In 1992 at the request of Russian authorities European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ("EBRD") together with several Russian organizations invested US$ 5.5 mln in the establishment of a quality investment banking institution. The Russian Project Finance Bank was founded in December 1992 and has quickly established itself as an efficient facilitator for the flow of Western capital into privatised Russian industries by providing advice in the arrangement of long term financing for investment projects in Russia.

At the end of 1998 a group of senior executives initiated a transfer of the RPFB’s corporate and project finance advisory business into separate company. This move was fully supported by the banks shareholders and clients.

Since then RPFB has been operating as a private partnership under the name RPFB Project Finance ltd.
